Whey protein

Whey protein (whey protein in English) is by far the most popular form of protein powder on the market. Its high biological value and wonderful flavors make whey protein a clear favorite regardless of exercise form and goals.

What is a whey concentrate concentrate?

Whey protein is extracted from cow's milk. Milk consists of 80% casein and 20% whey. The first filtration and purification process (so-called ultrafiltration) gives us a concentrate of whey protein, a so-called whey protein concentrate. In folklore, we usually only say whey, whey protein, whey protein powder or just whey when we actually mean a whey protein concentrate.

A commercial concentrate usually has a protein content of 35%, 60% or 80% (in some cases up to 89%). The whey protein concentrate which is around 80% is usually used in most whey protein powders you see in the form of supplements on the market. This explains popular product names such as Whey 80 which alludes to the protein content or Whey 100 where the manufacturer wants to show that the whey protein is cleaner or better in some way. Whey protein as a dietary supplement is an exceptionally good source of easily absorbed vital amino acids with a high proportion of BCAAs.
